Christmas 2016

Dear Friends in Christ,

Once again it’s time to sit down and write this annual letter to you all as we rapidly approach the Celebration of the Incarnation of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ at Christmas. This letter will also go out on our Parish Website. www.stedmundsloughton.com

As I reflect on the past twelve months, it gives me great joy to continue to be your Pastor; I was so happy when the annual moves were announced that our Bishop has left me here in the Parish. I have just begun my 15thyear here at St. Edmund’s; it’s the longest time I’ve ever lived anywhere in my life! It’s very much my home, and you are my family. I thank God every day for my priesthood, and also the great joy, honour and privilege of being able to serve you as a Priest of Jesus Christ. The beauty of any parish is the wonderful commitment of the faithful. Many visitors to the parish always comment on what an incredible feeling of family and community we convey. Of course at the heart of every successful parish is the Eucharist; it is Jesus who calls us and unites us in our faith. As we prepare for the Birth of Our Lord once again into our lives this Christmas, let us thank God for the privilege of being Roman Catholic and belonging to His family.

Bishop Alan Williams initiated the Stewards of the Gospel initiative this year; this programme will help us look at a strategic plan for the future of our parish and the whole diocese. The greatest asset of very parish is her people, and to assist and help every parishioner assume their rightful place in the life of the Church has been fundamental to my ministry as a Priest. I would encourage all of our parishioners to get ‘on board’ with this initiative as we look forward to 2017. There will be ongoing meetings, to which all are invited to participate. I hope you will respond positively to this invitation.

I would like to thank the whole community for your continued good will and support of the life of the Parish. I thank you for your generosity of spirit in continuing to build our parish community

I wish you and all your loved ones a Very Happy, Holy & Blessed Christmas, and every success and blessing for the New Year 2017

With Love & Peace to You All,

Fr. John J Harvey
